i have missed you but we have had the most wonderful week...
a week to hang out with my gorgeous brother...
his gorgeous wife...
& his gorgeous gals...
it's been social central at ours this month...
we've had a house of 9...
two birthday parties...
a Royal Wedding garden party...
a trip to London...
& endless catching up after a three year *us-moving-to-ol-Blighty* time apart...
to say the coffee i am bringing to our *virtual coffee catch-up* this morning is large, is a serious understatement...
it is more than large & more than needed...
so...first things first...that dress!
yep...Catherine's...
didn't she look heavenly...
a true Royal Princess...
Grace Kelly...yet Kate's own...
i must say...i adored it's simplicity & elegance...
so...before i go on & on about how lovely i thought their wedding day was...
i must admit that as an Australian, i am not a *true monarchist*...
i believe Australia should absolutely be a *republic* without representation by the Queen...
i think she is completely inspirational & absolutely lovely as a person...& i adore *their* place in British life...
she just doesn't capture the essence of modern Australia in any way...
but...
i also believe that as we currently live in Britian, we should respect, embrace & enjoy the elements of england that unite us all...
this day was a historical moment to remember of love & friendship...
Britian at it's best...
so we proudly hung our bunting...doillied the entire house...& popped the bubbles...
{i don't think i will ever take them off the television...it is just so much prettier like this don't you think!?}
so...if we were really meeting for a coffee today...or two- i think i need two this morning...
i would probably give you a packet of doillies...
they are the greatest decorating pick-me-up of the moment...
&
i would want to hear your very valued opinion of that dress....
i would love to sit through every detail of your day...
what did you do to celebrate?
what did you wear?
were you blessed, as we were, with very rare perfect weather?
if we were really meeting for a coffee this morning...
we'd be sitting out here...
our Wedding garden party was lovely...
it was, for us, also a day to thank those village friends who have made us feel so included here over the last three years...
a perfect time to say *without you, our time abroad, would have been very different...so thankyou...*
can i also just ask you, a thought as i look at the picture above...
do you have an endless array of chairs in your house?
it seems i have an obsession with white chippy french chairs & white chippy english chairs that is verging on mad!
my inspiration for this day was the *Coronation* Street Parties of old England...
it felt like a moment of the past with a fresh modern touch...thankyou William & Kate...
if we were really meeting for a coffee this morning...
i would also pop a cupcake or two into your basket...
i think i made more than 60 cupcakes over the weekend...
i spent a great deal of time in the kitchen surrounded by small english flags & flour...
& it was perfect...
the sun was glowing...
the cousins played in the garden endlessly...
we baked & prepared...
we sang & danced to the radio...
the feelings were all of celebration & excitement...
we had a wedding to enjoy & a beautiful 6th birthday to indulge in...
our little audrey celebrated her 6th birthday on the day of the wedding as you may know...
she was gorgeously excited...a birthday...a princess wedding & presents...
does it get any better when you are little?
i think not!
you & your bestie turning 6 together...
princesses for a day...
if we were really sitting in my garden...sipping coffee's...
talking of parties & weddings & all things lovely in the world...
i would also whisper to you that when *life is sweet* anything seems possible...
nothing is as lovely as one of those moments...
you know the ones where you feel blessed...
the ones where you really do smell the roses...
& for just a moment you allow yourself to feel totally humbled at where you find yourself...
almost in love with your life...
well i'm having one of those...coffee in hand with you in my garden...
i say embrace it whilst you can...
it's not always there when we are racing through our days...
when the mundane takes over...
the kiddos are not the ones you see in the mags- shiny & perfect...
the washing is still in the basket yet you washed it two days ago...
blah blah blah...
so if we were finishing up our drinks...throwing doillie bunting & cupakes in your basket & oohing at the British sunshine...i would make us both stop for a moment...just a moment...to think about the wonderful things in our lives...
the things that truly make our hearts smile...
i have to leave you out here now...
in the sun...on my chippy old chairs...
i have a house to de-clutter & tidy...
i'm making the task sound way less flippin' mammoth than it really is...
if only you could see it...you'd push me back inside...& wave to me from the garden...
so...with these images of the Wedding in our playroom i shall say *see you later*...
have a wonderful day...
smell some flowers...
hang some doillies...
&
embrace those moments...
happy 6th birthday to our gorgeous little tiger Audrey Pearl
we love you to "the number that has not been counted yet"
have a wonderful year lovely one
xoxox
after you've had enough of the sunshine in our garden
go spend a moment with our *virtual coffee host* Amy here
&
share a thought or two on *BC good life wednesdays* here
with Sarah at her Beach Cottage
~~~
thanks for all your visits & thoughts whilst i have been on my mini-family-catching-up-blogging-break
i'll be popping in to see you all this week & i can't wait
I want to come to your house for the next Royal Wedding. It looked like great fun. Mind you, during our coffee, I would tell you that I dug up on old purple shot taffeta bridesmaids dress, a royal blue sash, donned my wedding shoes and went a partying with the girls to watch the wedding. Over here it was on around 7pm, perfect time for champagne and giggles. There was a lot of gushing and smiling and we all agreed she was elegant and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the cuppa. Deb
Melissa... what a truly beautiful post. You're right, we do need to stop ourselves from time to time and remind us what is really important. In can take all sorts of things to get us to that point... in your case a wonderful party... mine was something a little different which happened the other day, but never the less, both instances, lead us to the conclusion that life is so precious. Enjoy. Lx
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous space you created to celebrate the wedding xox
ReplyDeleteAh that was a lovely read. I love your enthusiasm for your adopted life. I thought Catherine was positively perfect in every way :) A very happy birthday to Audrey and can I just say...I never, ever thought I would see a tv decorated in doilies! Awesome :)
ReplyDeletelove your celebration decorations and the doilies on the tv. i'm no monarchist either but i did enjoy watching the wedding..they seem like lovely natural people and it was so beautiful visually.
Melissa, wish I was at your place for morning tea with you! or afternoon garden, birthday, wedding day celebrations!! It all looks just so perfect, and fun!! Happy bday to your gorgeous little audrey pearl! How gorgeous do they both look with their little tiaras! I really enjoyed the wedding party at a friends. A little too much champers perhaps!!! Kate looked gorgeous, very graceful and elegant. Was kind of disappointed in the dress i have to say; was expecting something a little more... unpredictable.... But she was a stunning bride nonetheless. I just loved seeing williams face when he looked into her eyes!!! He was so much like his mother and just so handsome and in love! Thanks for sharing your cuppa with me!!
ReplyDeleteLots of hugs sweetie!
All your decor is just darling! :)
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures! Non-romatical American that I am, I huffed and puffed at the big deal the world was making about a wedding. And on the day of, found myself watching and oohhing and aaahing at two people who seem so happy and genuinely in love. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and pictures with me!
ReplyDeleteWell Melissa, I'm not quite having a coffee...it's 7pm and I have a champas and a pile of hot chips from the fish'n chip van that comes thru the village every Tuesday. Hubby is away and youngest son is happily eating his usual Tuesday night meal. It has been a 'GREAT' weekend, with lots of celebrating in the village...and of course a beautiful spectacle to boot. The Brits really do it well...I will always remember where I was when I think of Will and Kate, on their wedding day...very special. As was your day...how wonderful for little Audrey...she will never forget that particular birthday party!! I think we are a couple of very lucky Aussie families!! Robx
ReplyDeleteIt was such a lovely day . . . even though I had to get up at 3 am. to see it live. It was so worth it.
ReplyDeleteFondly,
Glenda
The doilies on the tv? BRILLIANT! Thanks for coffee, it's my first time over.
ReplyDeleteOh Melissa, this post made me smile and gave me goosebumps. There is something about your blog... your style... it gets me every time. You're such an original story teller, your words, your pics, hey, even your punctuation!
ReplyDeleteThat feeling, when your heart is smiling and anything seems possible - love the way you described that, and then the photo of Kate and Wills beaming from your telly - just beautiful.
Have a gorgeous, sunshiney day, and I hope you make short work of your housework dear girl.
And happy birthday to your darling Audrey.
i love everything you did for the occassion. really i love it! :)
ReplyDeletewhat a fun party!!! i was thinking about you...wondering if you were doing anything fun to celebrate :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like everyone had fun at your party! Thanks for stopping by Beach Cottage Good Life Wednesdays and adding your link!
ReplyDeleteOh your party and garden look wonderful, I would of loved to have come and watched the wedding there on that very pretty telly! :).. and a belated Happy Birthday to Princess Audrey x
ReplyDeleteOh My - didn't you have a day and a half Melissa! You did us proud with the flag flying. We had a prolonged celebration here, with a roast and bubbly whilst watching the ceremony at 8pm - lots of oooo's & aaahhh's and some what are they thinking moments. WE all loved the bride and maid of honour. The next day was street party central and the neighbourhood was adorned in union flags and doilies. Like you we had beautiful sunshine and enjoyed the celebration with pommie friends and neighbours and Ozzies alike. The party broke up at midnight. I don't think we had as many chairs as you! So glad you have enjoyed having your brother and family to stay. Happy 6th to Miss Audrey - what a day!
Melissa you so need to move back to Sydney to be my friend. Then we need another Royal wedding and you need to recreate that garden party and invite me! I couldn't find British bunting here in Sydney. So I of course made some myself and hung it across the TV.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes Kate, sorry Catherine's dress looked DIVINE. I love everything about her. And I thought William looked very sexy (when he had his hat on!) xxx
Oh, Lovely, I adored this post. It's so imbued with all your warmth, genuineness and zest for life. A classic. J x
