a friday flower of fallen leaves & conkers...

a friday flower...this friday i am all overwhelmed with the beauty of autumn...
& *little peoples* love of all that autumn brings...
perhaps when you are that much closer to the ground...you see autumn from the bottom up as it were...
for our little audrey...& her cousins from sandy sunny sydney...autumn ONLY seems to mean leaves & the constant gathering of them....CONSTANT...

we have huge bowls of amazingly beautiful leaves...
&
piles of smooth round conckers all over the place in this big ol'house...
so i am too am in love with the changing of the trees from the bottom up...
autumn marks the beginning of the journey towards winter...i am going to try to see it in the way only a child can...with wonder & excitement...enthusiasm & a hot little hand of fallen leaves & conkers...
there is nothing like being reminded to embrace life by your own child...

so i am giving this *friday flower*...
our autumnal-gathered-with-love-and-great-enthusiasm-fallen-leaves-&-conker-pile to my beautiful mum...
because if she was here with miss.audrey she would be falling in love with autumn in our english village...
& she would come up with some wonderful sculptural creation to build with audrey as the night crept in...
& she would thank audrey for reminding her that even though the summer is sydney is approaching, she would rather be gathering autumn goodies with her...
& audrey would know that & love her back....

so until that time soon...we will continue to gather conkers & fallen leaves & to embrace autumn from the *bottom up* with our very loved sydney cousins...
so...mum bring your gloves...your wellies...& your creativity....audrey has some baskets of goodies & a pile of autumn love for you!

...link up below if you want to share a *virtual flower* or pile of conkers with someone special...
...pop over to lovely Laura's to link up too...

have a wonderful weekend lovely people...

i have mucho cousin tales to share next week...
there is something wonderfully special about the connection between cousins...
our 2 1/2 years in the english countryside has not changed a thing...
their 2 1/2 years on the sandy coast of australia, sans us, has not changed a thing...

travel is an incredible gift...

  1. Conkers I quite forgot about them. When I was a child we lived in England for a year while Dad was doing his Masters. I seem to recall conkers and strings and games where the winner had the strongest conker. Do you heat them and eat them as well or am I imagining a warm, nutty smell?

  2. Little pangs of sadness reading your thoughts about your mum and your daughter. I know how you feel - although we're only across the Bass Strait, not in a completely different timezone! I really LONG for my kids to have more time with my parents. They have so much to learn from each other. But like your kids and their cousins, the time apart just melts away when they're together.

  3. Hi Melissa,
We do take things for granted, Fall and leaves and looking from the ground up... Thanks Miss Audrey for reminding your mum and now me for enjoying this time of the year!
    Have a good weekend!

  4. I am going out this
    very day to gather leaves
and put them in a bowl : )!!
My kids aren't so low to
    the ground, anymore, so
    it's the tree TOPS that
    hold their attention, this
    year...and gorgeous trees,
they have been ~ Such an
    amazing autumn! We live
    far from my parents, but
    the times they have spent
with my kids over the years
    have forged a firm bond,
    despite actual hours logged.
But I do know EXACTLY the
    feeling. Happy Friday,
    sweet Melissa!
    xx Suzanne

  6. I love the autumn colors. We don't have any of that here so when the kids do find leaves like that on trips, they get a little excited too.

  7. Love this post... love the warmth of the pictures... loved the fact that it reminded me of collecting conkers as a kid... admiring there shine and colour.... and then soaking them in vinegar and hardening on the radiators, ready to become a 'one-ner' in the the conker matches at school.... happy days! I know what you mean about mums... I miss mine so much and there's so much I want to share with her here in the States... luckily she's coming out next week for a whole month (her last visit was two years ago), so I'm giddy with excitement!! Let's hope our girls aren't travellers like us! Is that wrong to wish that?? Lx

  9. Miss Melissa:) You ALWAYS make me smile!! I know I say this all the time, but I love your outlook on life, your view of what it means to be a parent and you are such a FABULOUS Mama!! I think one of the biggest beauties of having such sweet children is that we adults are able to see the world through their eyes...what a treat, no? I love all of the beautiful leaves and conkers that your sweet Audrey has collected:) Mind you, I have no idea what conkers are? They look a little like chestnuts... Hope your weekend is full of family loveliness my friend. Huge hugs as always (and thanks for hosting Friday Flower!!). Mwah ~ Txx

  12. Are conkers "chestnuts?" I can't figure it out. I think they are chestnuts. I'm not sure the shape is quite right though.

    Beautiful post, Melissa. :)
