virtual coffee & a spring party...

evening sweet bloggy friends...
i'm a little late to my fave *catch-up* of the week - virtual coffee...
& boy do i have a whallop of stuff to talk about with you!
it's evening here in the english countryside...
& i am snuggled up in bed with one poorly little angel- miss.audrey {again!} & a cup of milky-sugared tea...& a couple of english bickies...
have i mentioned how much i loooove having my sister-in-law staying with us?
she bought me up the night time tea & bickies...
she made dinner tonight...
& banana muffins & oat slice for a special trip tomorrow...
& she packed a luchbox of food for my hubster to take to work tomorrow...
& she is lovely lovely lovely to be with...
she makes me feel just a little bit blessed to know her...

anyhoo...
if we were really meeting for a cup of very strong made by my lovely siste-in-law tea...
& watching over little miss.a doozing beside us...
i would share with you our birthday weekend...
it was heavenly...
our big gal became a teen...& her friends were completely gorgeous & more polite than most people you run into during a day of jobs around the place...

we had cupcakes & vintage inspired flags...
a fancy dress themed around *hippies* & the *eighties*...two extremes...
a table of pizza's & endless laughter...
lovely kids with such enthusiasm & friendship for our daughter...
an aussie girl in the depths of the english countryside...
adopted by these wonderful generous english kids...
showered with hugs & smiles...

you'd have to sit through ALL my photos if we were really having a pot of tea together...
i can't promise to not shed a tear over them...
she looks so happy...& we are so proud of her...
& yep you're probably right- i should have a stronger more sugary-milky tea...
it seems to help somehow...when one is a little emotional that ones's eldest really is getting older!

ok- i've slurped down that first lovely cup...
& i encourage you to do the same, because you are gonna want to try these little beauties on!
everyone wants to see themselves in a mo & a pair of specs at some stage...
these were a total party winner!

cut from black card in various hand drawn shapes...
we made a pile of moustaches...
stuck them on chopstick handles...
&
added 3D movie glasses to the pot...
we pushed out the lenses & plonked the lot in the middle of the table...
the kiddos loved them...
we loved them...
the camera loved them...
see...slurp down that tea & try them on...
or at least remember to make a pile of your own...
ella had seen them in a magazine somewhere & we whipped up our own in no time!

if we were really having a catch-up at mine together...
i'd send you home with a pair...they are soo much fun...
even us oldies look kinda cool...
& we got a little street cred  from the birthday gang by letting them take photos of us in party mode...

if we were really catching up for a tea tonight...
i'd ask you about the birthday's you remember growing up...
the special ones...
the ones that were "better than you imagined they would be"...

there is nothing like a weekend of sunshine & a wonderful birthday party for one of your kids...
there's a long build up & a fair whack of work in birthday preparations isn't there...!?
this weekend we were blessed...
perfect spring weather...
a house full of happy kiddos...
music & laughter...
backyard cricket...
& a bbq lunch...
if we were really here together i'd be wanting to get the lowdown on your weather situation...
i still can't believe some of you are still getting snow!
i've needed this spring heat...proper warm...freckles-on-the-nose kinda heat for a looooong time!
it feels soo good...

it was a little reminder of days in our beach suburb garden at home...
*nothing* days...
warm nothing days...
the kind you always remember...
if we were really catching up for an hour or two of lovely tea in a pot...
i'd have to take you down to sit in our english garden...
i'd want you to make the most of this gorgeous english weather...
storybook spring weather...
& then i'd throw out our picnic rug on the grass for you...
& leave you with a moustache or two & a pair of cool librarian looking glasses & my camera...
you'd have a lovely time...

thanks for dropping by
&
chewing the fat...
catching up on all things
birthday
&
weather...
we are off to London tomorrow for a little big city loving with our beloved aussie visitors
before the big day-
the *Royal Wedding*
so see you when we return with tales to tell...
~~~
i just A.D.O.R.E tuesday catch-ups
for more head over here
& tell my great friend amy i said hi...
i'm off to snuggle & mummy our little a...
  1. Love the spec and mo idea... a guaranteed ice-breaker...
    You know, I struggle to remember my birthdays. But my 31st does stand out... little French restaurant in Sydney, delicious crisp white wine, scrumptious food and witty company... oh and a famous, spunky chef that had me blushing behind my menu... gxo
It feels as though mine have been permanently sick recently... thirdly, you sure know how to throw a party. Looks like a lot of fun was had by all ;-) and finally... can you send your sister-in-law around to ours I could do with the help at the moment! Have fun in London... enjoy the beautiful weather (raining here) and I'll catch you when you return! Lx
  10. Fabulous looking party. Those girls have smiley eyes, so they must have had great fun! I know how you feel about getting emotional when they grow up. The other night I was looking through photos of my eight year old when it was her first week at school...in cold North Yorkshire...she was only a month into her 4th year - a baby! Now she's all dangly sunkissed legs and lots of long hair.
    Enjoy precious family time and I hope Audrey feels better soon.
  14. Thanks Melissa for visiting Jack and Georgie. Your blog is just gorgeous! It sounds as though you are living my dream life! I watch 'Escape to the Country' every Friday and Sunday and visualise myself over there... Chirn Park is on the Gold Coast sandwiched between Southport and Labrador. Stay tuned as I'm planning a post of all the local shops and houses - it's a mecca of untouched Queenslander cottages! Take care and love from a fellow Aussie blogger, Jacqueline xx
  22. Oh yes, muchos street cred in that wee get-up! What a great idea for a party - might have to borrow this for my Milly's later this year.
  23. Melissa! You did a wonderful job of decorating and getting all the details just perfect like I knew you would for Ella's birthday! ahhhh! Really makes me wish I could really be at that awesome party but since I am across the globe I will drool over all the party pictures virtual-style. I have been wanting to make similar moustaches and now I have to do it, the kids would LOVE it. I love the hippie/80's theme, quite the combination there but so much fun for Ella and her friends. And really? i think I might love to dress up for a party like that too! : ) Hope you have a wonderful time in England and fun with your in-laws. I bet it is getting so exciting over there over the upcoming royal wedding day...thanks so much for coffee and a big HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ella! She looks absolutely beautiful in that first photo by the way! XO
  33. Hi Melissa, what a gorgeous post. It looks like you had great fun..very clever idea dressing up like that...and isn't the weather wonderful...England has really turned it on for your visitors. I have great memories of making numerous birthday cakes for the kids from the Womens Weekly Birthday Cake book...and my husband racing out the night before, madly looking for something I usually forgot...like fine licorice straps. The kids, when they were little, would peruse the book months before their birthdays trying to decide which cake they wanted! Have fun! Robx
