& thankyou sooo very muchly for all your wonderful & full-of-friendship comments yesterday....
it was a VERY long post to get through without at least one glass of wine in hand...
so i very much loved you sharing your reaction to it...
i truely enjoyed writing it...
anyhoooo...today i don't quite have that kinda post in me...
i think my mind now needs to just focus on the visual beauty that made up our time in france...
as a pretty mad closet *sound of music* fan...
i have to admit i have always wanted to visit a beautiful old abbey in the hills of some european village...
well we did just that & my heart literally *fluttered*...
it was just *love-at-first-sight*...
these are the memories i will treasure of our travels...
the kiddos surrounded by a moment they would just never be have in our beachy life back home...
they stopped...played...smelt & pocketed some of the abbey herbs...& took in the moment...
even they knew this was pretty special...
i think little audrey even smuggled out an abbey ladybug to take with us to lunch...she's a bit of a bug gal & it was soo lovely & no doubt blessed...she just couldn't help herself...
& you know what made me *ooohhh* & *aahhhh* just a little more than usual...?
that this magic ancient perfect abbey was just sitting there...in the middle of an old french town...with the locals buying their baguettes near it...people drinking their espresso's beside it & children running along its street...it wasn't a tourist point...it had no sign or markings to lure one in...it just sat there *quietly* humbly as life went on around it...
...i was in heaven....
..it absolutely took all my power not to break into song!...
this is lovely beginning to my day ... black coffee in hand ...
ReplyDeletehave a beautiful weekend, new friend
I love the shots of the round windows. Beautiful... and any shot of lavender is a plus in my book... When I was a kid we used to hang out at Newstead Abbey in Nottinghamshire (the ancestral home of Lord Byron... I know he has strong links to Oz too), the gardens there were amazing... I took my girls there for a picnic when I was over last summer... It's lovely being able to introduce children to beautiful architecture and gardens! Lx
ReplyDeletei sware i feel just as if i am visiting these places just a bit melissa, because of the way you describe them so wonderfully. thanks for taking us along on your journey!
ReplyDeleteMy sentiments exactly...I have been longing all summer for such a place. I was thrilled when I found a Monastery only a few hours away that is open to the public to visit and even stay at! I am planning to go stay for a weekend this year. The peace and quiet along with the beauty allures me. I understand why this moment, this visit, at this Abbey was enchanting for you...a memory cherished for a lifetime. Thank you for sharing it with us.
ReplyDeleteYour photos make me want to travel. They are scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteand 'these are a few of my (your) favourite things!' I love that you and the kidlets are embracing all these wonderful experiences, large and small.
ReplyDeleteHi there... thank you for the lovely comment today. We're glued to the TV here, watching the hurricane footage from NJ... it's looking OK for us, but we never know whether we'll flood due to the high tide and surge from the waves... eek! I'll definitely be posting a Friday Flower feature each week... I don't need any excuses to buy flowers, so if you want to link up... I'd be honored! This old blog malarkey is a great way to connect with people. Have a great weekend! Lx
ReplyDeleteAmazing to think of
ReplyDeletevillage life swirling
about this lovely abbey....
No fuss, just a part
of the landscape. And
how wonderful that your
family was able to insert
itself into it, as well!
You certainly all look
right at home. What a trip!
xx Suzanne
I love how you capture things around you!
ReplyDeleteStunning!
So glad to know that you'll be running. It's finally a little bit cooler here! That makes a huge difference for me!
There is something about travel and experiencing things that you would never be able to in your daily surroundings. And there's something magical about France. These photos are beautiful and I love your description of the experience.
