today i was intending to start sharing some projects that i have had on the go for a few days with you all...
but australia is still flooding in two states...& they are preparing themselves for more rain...
so for me...it just doesn't feel appropriate today...
when i read what other bloggers...whom i admire unconditionally are doing...
it just makes me want to weep with pride...
australians have a world-renowned positive attitude, even in the face of total devestation...
& the many videos & news reports that i scroll through daily from home, secure that belief...
it seems that the very big...very dispersed population of our country is working as a single minded community...
& i for one, so very far away from our country, am incredibly proud of that...
bloggers have been sharing stories of their support & raising much needed funds by way of their crafts & shops...i admire all for their strength & compassion towards their fellow australians...
&
today...i'd like you take a moment to visit *Simone* from *Beach Vintage*...
a brisbane girl herself...with a wonderful shop to accompany her blog in the suburbs of brisbane...
Simone & her girlfriend Jody have set upon helping others in their community with an immediate answer to their daily needs...
each morning after preparing & making basket loads of sandwiches...
stocking up on bottled water & energy bars...
the two girls spend the remainder of their day delivering the goods to devastated pockets of brisbane...
recording their personal responses to the crisis via her blog, it is an emotional account, first hand, of assisting others in their community...
please visit Simone & assist in the * Beach Vintage Flood Relief Scheme *...
she & Jody are angels amongst the chaos for many families in brisbane this week...
life can be put into perspective in a moment...
Simone will help you do that...
~~~
these images of calm from my kitchen
are a stark reminder of what many australian
families have lost
homes, loved ones, their own space...
please visit Simone & give where you can
thank you
~~~
Hi there melissa, I must visit beach vintage to see, I am sure that Simone is just a shining light for some of those poor devastated families ... So many people have started some amazing things.. I thought and thought all last week what I could possibly do to help... At last Carol from (naturallycarol blog) asked people to sew cushion covers which she will recieve and help distribute to some people who now have nothing. So, I know i can do that!! When you live so far away, you cant help feeling guilty.. useless.. and so many other feelings arise. It is such an awful situation, but so amazing to see that there are still so many wonderful people around when all you ever hear (usually) about on the news etc is the bad people of the world. There is hope after all!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful post mon amie!!
laura xxxx
We pull together when we need to don't we my love. Yes indeedy one big heart. And now I shall pop over to see the lovely Simone and Jody and see if I can lend a hand somehow. xx

Amazing, practical work by Simone and Jody. I really wish I could do more but I feel very far away too. I've had this strange urge to pick up a broom since it all happened...
ReplyDeleteMy Prayers are with them.I will go check out her blog.We to are having flooding in are area and it so sad.~Blessings Kim
ReplyDeleteI was so touched to read about what Simone and her friend are doing for all those that have struggled and lost so much during these terrible floods.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for stopping by and saying hi too. I'm loving your beautiful blog.
Blessings,
Marcia
Hi Melissa, it is indeed still a big struggle and I know Simone's blog, they are doing an amazing job! I am in the middle of making my own little Hope Softie (no machine yet, so by hand) and donated and bought a garland. Every little bit helps right? Hope you are alright, did you find something from me in your mailbox (the real one that is)? xx Maureen
ReplyDeleteMakes one VERY PROUD to be an Aussie.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post! Thanks for spreading the word about our heroines and heroes. We are having some more flooding today here in Queensland but it is due to King Tides. Thank goodness it is not as bad as the "Big One" but many of the same places have just been hit again. Your thoughts and prayers will definitely be appreciated.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes,
Natasha.
A touching post, Miss Melissa. Simone and Jody are troopers, like all the thousands of volunteers who have turned up to help. One of my dear bloggy friends only escaped inundation by 2 cm. One good luck story in a horrible week. J x
ReplyDeleteI only just finished reading that myself! So wonderful. Such a massive contribution to such devastation. I just posted off a package of fabrics and buttons to a grandmother who watched her entire craft room float away..it's only a small gesture but every little helps xx
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments on my blog. (LOVE the name of your blog by the way).
ReplyDeleteIt must be hard for you being away when these awful floods are happening. I am blown away when I see how generous people are being with their time, money and creativity. They make me proud to be Australian. x.
Hello there...I know exactly what you mean about how the day to day frippery seems inappropriate to blog about when there is such devastation being faced. It must hard too to have that happen to your homeland when you are so far away.
ReplyDeleteOn the book recommendation - thrilled you bought it - hope you like it. It's an acquired taste, John Updike is pretty brutal about life! And it's all about affairs so makes interesting reading but is quite racy. Soooo, not sure why I like it so much, I just do. I think he is truthful about what people really think about behind that veneer of social niceness. Anyway - enjoy! Lou xx
Awesome blog - love it. Where did you get the bottles with the numbers (that have pasta in them) - they are adorable.
