a virtual coffee- *coastal farm* style...

morning gals...ready for a catch-up?

we're doing what us aussies would call *bog-standard* coffee's today....

no fancy schmasy christmas coffee's this morning...

purely because i was racing home from school drop-off...a quick shop & a morning of *thrown-on-

washing-before-breaky* kinda start to my day...

so i forgot to order us something posher...

but i do have a new H & M shirt on if that helps lesson the un-christmas blow...

ceeeeute huh! i love {H & M}...

i'm thinking that this looks good here in winter with my little tied round thingy...

& will look great for christmas back in sydney with my skinnies & some {havaianas}

if you're reading anyone from home- i would love a new silver pair under the tree ;)

so...welcome to a little corner of my sitting room...

bog-standard coffee in hand...you go first...

what you been doing since we last caught up {here} ?

any list ticking- ya know i'm big on this at the moment!

any gift ideas for three kids {13, 10 & 6} flying 12,000 miles back across the world 5 days before

any gift idea for the mummy that is taking them...the one that will no doubt sit awake the entire 24

hours of the journey & yet still only see half of one movie?

yep, i once watched the first half of {Juno} twice...hoping i'd eventually get to the end...

i love that film...especially the first half ;)

so...if we were really sitting in my front room swapping stories over coffee...

i'd tell you that i'm starting to throw around this new term...*coastal farming*...

i'd ask you what you think of it...

for me, it's the sum of both my parts...

the coastal-reared, surf loving girl thrown in to the english countryside...

who is now also a horse-loving-football-{soccer}-mad-country-walk-loving gal...

that's a whole lota beach with a good dose of all things country...

for me...beach & coastal is lotsa white...lotsa chippy chairs...bare feet...open doors...

sandy floorboards...sun-kissed faces & a tray of mangoes in the kitchen...

{check that out here}

& country for me is fires lit to warm one's bare feet...chipped chairs & drawn windows...

floorboards & board games......

wellies & hearty meals on the stove top...

more industrial than coastal...

i'm thinking that if i combine all we've collected we'll be living *coastal farming* style...

the two sides of my life...my two loves since moving abroad...

what d'ya think?

i'm doing it all a little red here at the moment...just being christmasy & all- & it's my fave new colour...

i'm loving a bit of red & white as we come to the end of our lovely village life-

these colours that will always remind me of England...

my *coastal farming* thing will be more coastal orientated when we unpack all those blessed crates...

i'm gonna love that...back to our fresh...simple...beach orientated home...

but always with my love of the country thrown in...

so...if we were really drinking bog-standard coffee's together in take-away christmas cups...

i'd ask how you like to live...how do you throw all the pieces you've gathered round you through

travels, children, jobs & life together?

i think we live in an eclectic happy, sometimes random sort of home...but it does come from a heart

that has been lucky enough to live on two sides of the world...

if we'd really had an hour together today - i'd show you some pickies of our house back on the

beaches of Oz...

you may have a brilliant *coastal farming* idea that i haven't thought of...

& if that idea involved me needing to buy a fantastic old french candle-holding chandelier for our back

balcony before i head home- then speak up.... :)

loud & clear...

i'll even bob back up & get you another posh coffee for that thought...!

& offer you a room in Oz if you ever needed it...

you could watch half of Juno...at least twice...on the way

see ya next week for a coffee...i'll think of an interesting cuppa for us both...

bog standard for one week only- i promise....

  1. Great photos as always, love your house and your shirt!

    Bee happy x
    Have a delicious day!

  2. Nice post!
    Love new H & M shirt ;)

  3. How do I throw all the pieces that I've gathered around me? Well, I think that's exactly what I do - just kind of throw them. It works for me, and I'm pretty sure you could make anything work! Coastal farming - it has a nice ring to it, in a chippy kind of way. And as for speaking up loud and clear about any last minute buying, you've had me positively yelling in your ear for the last few weeks, so I have no doubts on that front! What is one more crate or container when you're moving from one side of the world to the other? Stack them up! xx

  4. Coastal farming could be summed up as my style as well. I live only four kilometres from the beach on the South coast in a small country town, so I have grown up on the beach but also with a dose of the country as well. It's a great combination. Your style really resonates with me. Love your shirt too!! Look forward to a real coffee next week. LOL...Leahx

  5. Bog standard coffee is fine by me. I am even happy with a tea bag. I am loving the shirt. Could you entice H&M to come home with you?

  6. Ah Sweets. How you manage to find the time to blog in the midst of your craziness is astounding! You really make me giggle. Loving that mat - I guess there's room for one like it in *my* container, am I right? Or has Amanda taken up all the room?! J x

  7. oohh....love these pics Melissa. I've never been a big fan of red, but you make it look so nice! I might have to throw a little in this holiday season!
Oh and I think you already know how I feel about coastal farming :)
I also have an idea for you.....i think you need a french candle holding chandelier to bring back to oz! :)

    yours in coastal farming,

P.S. As I was reading this in the lovely florida sun, drinking my espresso I looked down and noticed I was wearing my favorite havaiaanas. Hope you get that silver pair on your wish list!

  8. I'm so pleased you put a link to 'havianas' as I had no idea what they were!
Your living room corner looks sooo cosy, but I think you should get that really comfy, comfy patchwork chair to take back (or have you already persuaded Mr B. B. to gift it to you???)
    Coastal farming sounds lovely!
Thank you for the 'boggy' coffee : )

  9. As someone who lives near the beach in Australia but in a farming town I have similar ideas to you.A relaxed beachy ,whitewashed feel but with a good dose of country thrown in.We would call it Australian Country Style. The beach with vegie gardens, chooks and wellies thrown in.
I am not a big shopper other than secondhand!but you must buy the chandelier to bring back and any other special things you really love in U.K. If I could pop something in your luggage it would be my lifelong favourite blue and white striped Cornishware.Get ready for the heat in Aus.-the beaches will more than make up for it! x Cathie

  10. I know it sounds selfish but I think Australia's gonna be so happy to get you back! xx

  11. I think *coastal farming* is a fabulous new phrase.
Look out, it may catch on fast once you get back here to Oz! ;)
    We live by the beach.
Our little house was originally built as a shack, so until our dream of being able to afford to extend comes true, we are living a shabby chic life, with probably more shabby than chic!
I dream of the styling of Sarah at abeachcottage, but alas it is not like that.
Bit of old, bit of new, bit of white, bit of blue and lots of splashes of red thrown in!
If you don't want that chandelier I will have it, especially one that will hold candles. Swoon!

  12. Ps wearing my red havaiana's today. Love my red!

  13. "Coastal farming"...I just know that this phrase is now going to pop up in all the best shelter mags. You could start your own Coastal Farming workshops when you get back....teaching us the dark arts of successful coastal farming vignettes. Wicker or seagrass? Recycled pallettes or driftwood? We'll really need you to guide us through this one. You seem to get it just SO right.

With this in mind, it only stands to reason that you will have to ship an enormous amount of "stock" with you, just in case you run out and leave us all in despair. Happy list making! Meredy xo

  14. Our little old place has an English cottage feel, but with an dash of an American Cape and a twist of Australia. Like you, I sit and think what will make it all the way back home (Blighty) when we finally make that move. The hubby said I should stop buying things as it will all have to be shipped or junked but life would be so dull without picking up that little something! Lx
