what's that all about??
last year here we had knee deep snow- this year we have wind...hail...wind...& more hail...
so...i'm thinking we could all do with a little story of a Christmas past...
Aussie's in wellies- stomping through gorgeous white snow in the english countryside to go get
themselves a tree...
a real local...from the woods...planted for Christmas...English tree...
three beach born...sandy haired...sun-kissed little Aussies...
coaxed by the travel-loving parents across the globe...promised moments like this...
let's get a little background here...
these guys had NEVER seen snow till we moved them to ol'Blighty....
it's not that snow doesn't exist in Australia- it's just that it doesn't exist on the beaches near us ;-)
& truly no snow holiday can compare to waking up to your very own white garden after snuggling
down for the night in front of an open fire...
N.O.T.H.I.N.G
this is the way to see your first whallop of snow...don't ya think?
so...the story goes that those sandy, salty kids did what they do best...
they got out in it...they threw themselves into each & every minute of the white stuff...
the neighbours shed was raided & sleds passed over the fence...
they built their first snowman...they jumped on a snow laden trampoline...they froze...
& their first moments of falling in love with snow were etched in their memories for ever...
now...these little Aussie kids- they hadn't felt real cold like this before...
they rugged up & ran & laughed & smiled soo big they didn't even know they were frozen till they
came in hours later tired & happy...
then they changed & started all over again...
they wandered their little village...the one they had fallen in love with...
the village that will always take over their hearts when they think of England...
& they took in every single street....
every single corner & road & house that they knew so well...
they took in every quiet moment...
ya know-snow muffles noise...even the sound of three very excited Aussie kids screaming & shouting
snow instructions to one another...
{i loved that quiet...
the white...the clear sky...the quiet...}
so those three sandy, beach reared little Aussies woke up to a perfect storybook-white-lead-up-to-
Christmas-morning...
the ultimate way for those three kiddos to fall in love with snow...
that's my Christmas tale for you...
it's all snow...& smiles & memories as i watch the squirrel in our garden blow from tree to tree...
how's your side of the globe?
gotta a little Christmas-past memory you're pulling out as the
weather sort's itself out round us!
i love a good Christmas tale...

i love how kids are able to just adapt to anything! how exciting that must have been for them to see their first snow and be old enough to remember it. i hope you all get one good one before you leave!
ReplyDeleteps--i am dying over the milk bottles in the crate...LOVE.
no snow here yet...but i'm hoping we have a white christmas! and your pics are just lovely!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful winter photos xxx
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely memories of their snowy experiences to be taking home with you all...and I understand from family reports that Sydney is meant to be warming up soon - ready and waiting for you when you get back to the beach!
ReplyDeletewow! beautiful pictures Melissa! Your kids are so lucky! What an awesome experience to see two sides of the globe at such a young age!
ReplyDeleteI hope we get some snow.....I love waking up on those really cold mornings and knowing - just from the eerie quiet - that it's snowed....it's magical every time. The whole world changes....
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos :) XX
Well it's looking like a cracker of a day here I must say. Been very lovely for ages now with a bit of grotty weather in between. Didn't really get Spring this year.
ReplyDeleteI was asking our girls if they would prefer a summer Christmas or a winter Christmas. They all said summer! Turns out there are more options when the sun is shining. I still think there's something about a white Christmas personally but I wouldn't want more than one or two.
Loved seeing your snowy shots. It's amazing how it covers everything so evenly. I hope you get a good dumping soon.

I love seeing all the snow and a white christmas would be lovely. However, I am really hoping we get some warm weather here. It is quite cold and raining. Where has summer gone?? I am hoping for a hot christmas beach day! Leahx
ReplyDeletehow funny! i'm sitting here drinking my morning cuppa looking outside and thinking 'this cold unusual sydney weather is actually making me feel really Christmassy this time of year'. And then I read your post in my homeland and now I feel even MORE Christmassy. Gorgeous gorgeous pictures. This snowy post is my favourite of yours to date x
ReplyDeleteWe are having a very mild week here. It feels very odd to be thinking Christmas thoughts. But I'm not complaining. The temps are about to plunge, but sadly, it won't bring us any snow. If it's going to be cold, I want snow. If not, bring on the warm temps, please.
ReplyDeleteSublime, Melissa. No chance of snow here for Christmas! J x
ReplyDeleteThis is the kind of post that dreams are made of Melissa! Yes sir... Dreams that inspire our family.... Thank you! Safe packing & travelling and "saying of goodbyes" xxx
ReplyDeleteI love your pics, they are beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI just hope we get some summer weather here in Tas for Christmas, that would be nice!!
Well I hope the cold wet weather clears up before Christmas here, being in Australia, I want a hot Christmas by the pool, not a miserable wet one, but one year I would like to experience a white Christmas- just once!
ReplyDeleteSweet memories...we had snow on Christmas last year too...just a little but it counted!
ReplyDeletelovely photos! your story reminds me of when we went to colorado with our kids when they were similar age to yours. they loved just throwing themselves into the snow. very funny to watch.
