...all about you &... well me too...

...so i am sort of recovered from all the partying...
...today is the actual day...
...'mum am i really, truely 5 today'...

...& now that all my babies are...well a bit bigger than they were before...
...i've have been thinking about my things-things that i have discovered or re-discovered...for myself...
...things that mean not a great deal to perhaps the greater masses...
...or to my kids or Ritchie...
...but things that mean alot to me...

...ok don't hold onto your hats here...
...as much as i'd love to find a cure for cancer...
...or climb everest...

...i'm talking about smaller, personal things...

*...i have started spending the hour after school drop-off exercising!!!!...
...this is not to be underestimated my friends- we have been in seriously wonderful, snowy, dismal, cold &...well just grim grey weather in one way or another since last october...
...so to get out & pound the pavement along the irish sea has been HEAVEN!...

*...i have created something with my sewing machine or paintbrush pretty much everyday...
...the pleasure this brings me is limitless...
...it doesn't change the world but it makes me very nice to live with...

*...i have learnt to wing it in the kitchen...
... i arrived in england not really cooking {ok Ritchie- not even able to boil an egg}- at home in sydney we basically bbq-ued everything...
...& i learnt to cook with the passion of a born-again...
{i'm talking 2 loaves of fresh bread, from scratch, a day...mad!}
...now, i have learnt to cook from the heart...

&

*...i blog...
...this alone, has bought me immense pleasure...
...a creative outlet...
...& new & special like-minded  friends...

{...it's just what this  frustrated writer needed!...}

...& i am happy for these simple pleasures...

...they won't bring world peace...

...secure our kids a place a university...

...or make me millions....

...but these things will secure in 'my memories' that bringing our children 15.000 miles away from their sandy, salty lives in australia to experience life in the english countryside has been a great thing for them...for us as a family...
...& a brilliant thing for their mother...

...i guess i would have achieved all of these things in my cossie & beach towel at home in oz...
...but there's something special about achieving them here...

....a part of this life...my english life...

...don't get me wrong- it's been a huge, life-changing experience thats not all been *roses*...
...but it's given me time to achieve all of the things above...
...& that, for me, has been... my *rose garden*...

...so happy birthday our littlest tiger & today has been all about you...

...& well all about me too...

  1. I love this stream of consciousness post. And I might donate my left arm to live in England for a while.
But I don't think anyone would want it, so I'm out of luck and stuck in Arizona. Boo hoo. Poor me.

  3. Melissa, you write so beautifully! I don't know why but this post made me cry! I feel like we are so similar, albeit we only moved 800 kms from our previous home not over the other side of the world. I too have made a concsious effort to remember what makes me happy and to do one thing a day that I enjoy for myself. Most days believe it of not it is studying (I know I go on...but I do really love it)! How wonderful that you are sewing and painting and exercising!! ( I am to exercise, what you WERE to cooking...)! Happy, happy birthday to your big 5 yr old blossom, I hope Audrey has a wonderful day! Hope you enjoyed it to as I think birthdays are just as important for parents. This day is about Audrey, but it is also about YOU:) Wishing you a wonderful day my lovely. Big hugs to you ~ Tina xx

  7. My Dear Melissa, Your posts reach out to me and prove that, contrary to what I'm told, there are good people in the world, people that don't just do things for greed, people that are good and kind to me, without wanting something in return.

They are proof that happy families and good mums don't just exist in fairy tales.

I bet if I asked you what you wanted your kids to be you'd answer 'happy, healthy and content' and not 'rich enough to take care of me in old age.

Like Tina - this post made me cry too. Ok, so I'm tired and grumpy, which brings on the weepiness, but it makes me believe that all the while there are people like you in the world, there's a hope that we can all, one day, live in peace.

I love your posts. Thanks for sharing x
