...a french giveaway...

...errrrrr

...we go on holidays

...to france

...t.o.d.a.y

...i thought

...we were going tomorrow!

...i have two concerns about this...
...one. i haven't packed A THING
...two. am i just so mad or sooo spoilt or sooo relaxed that i would make a mistake....on a holiday to france
...for 5 people!

...i mean if i was flying from australia to france with the kiddos i'd have been packed weeks ago!
..& here in maybe lays the reason for my mix-up
...we are not flying to france
...we are driving to france

...although even the kiddos think i am clutching at straws on this one!
...WE ARE DRIVING...you can drive for days in oz & get.......well just get somewhere else in oz

...but here you can drive to the edge of the country, drive into a ferry & come out buying baguette & waving your passports!
...a ferry in sydney gets you from our house on the beaches to the city
...a ferry on this side of the world gets you abroad
...now that is pretty darn cool...don't ya think?

...anyway i am still concerned about my attitude!

...france for gods sake- get a grip melissa !

...so...in working with my errr super-relaxed-mother-travelling-mode i thought this little moment of madness needs to be celebrated with a last yehar to summer travel give-away....

...i had sooo much fun with the last greek one that i want to finish the summer hols with a french one!

...so all you lovely followers who leave me messages & make me think & laugh..
...or all you visitors who just pop past with a cuppa & move on..nows your moment

...leave me a message whilst i am brocante & la plage hopping...

...let me know you're a bloggy follower & let me know if you've ever missed a flight
...or thought your holiday was the *next day* !!

...see ya in a week...i'm going looking for french treasures...

{m found by my parents in a parisian brocante-heaven}

  1. Have a fabulous time in France! I don't think you're crazy to drive, I used to drive long distances a lot at home but I've already started to think anything over about 40 miles is a loooong waayyy! lol I actually quite like the ferry (maybe I was lucky) I think it was less choppy than on the Manly Ferry!

Have never thought my hols were the next day, but did get all the way from Cumbria to Leeds Airport and found that the friend I was travelling to Italy with had left her passport at home - in Cumbria!

Have a great time in France and look forward to hearing how it went when you get back,

    Melissa xx

  2. This is fantastic!
    Imagine!
    I am the worst
    procrastinator when
    it comes to packing
    for a trip, especially
    an airline trip....
    For our driving trip
    out here to the
    Oregon Coast, I found
    it quite liberating
    to just chuck what
    we needed into a bag
    or squish my cosmetics
    in the back next to
    the dog's crate....
    AND, I could even take
    full bottles of shampoo
    and not worry about
it weighing too much : )
    You are going to have
    such a wonderful time!!!
    Wish I could fit in
    your suitcase ~ enjoy, enjoy.
    xx Suzanne
    PS: LOVED hearing about
    your beach holiday. I
    laughed about the wet suits...
    It's exactly the same, here.

  3. Eeek! How could you possibly forget when you were going to FRANCE!! I wish I was close enough to drive there. But I will be flying there next April! I don't think I have ever missed a flight or forgot when my holiday was, but we did go camping once on my husbands birthday. We got up sooo early to leave, my brain wasn't functioning enough to actually remember it was his birthday. Didn't remember until later that night, poor guy. All day and no "happy birthday".

Have a heap of fun in France!

  5. Have a great holiday! I loved your comment about how you can drive for days in oz and be somewhere else in oz. Applies to Canada too (unless you head south towards the states). When we lived in the UK and Germany, we loved being able to pack up the 3 kids into the car, drive for a few hours and being in another country. And on driving holidays, we tended to pack later as well - easy to jam everything into the trunk of the car. You'll have a great time. PS Have been reading your blog for ages but just became a follower (not sure why I hadn't done that earlier).

  6. Have a fantastic time in France... soo Jealous. I have a travelling story, but not of a missed flight, but of a forgotten passport. We all visited my folks in the UK this past Feb. The hubby could only stay for a long weekend and then had to return for the US for work. Anyway, my folks are 3 hours away from the airport and on arriving there to catch his flight home he realised he had forgotten something... his passport... This then caused him to miss his flight...Keching...$600 new flight (BA were not understanding).... to a different airpot... Keching $100 to get to JFK to Newark (during crazy snow storm).. Parking fees for 2 extra days $150... Phone charges (UK payphones v. expensive on credit card...US cell wouldn't work) $100...The list went on.. he missed an extra day at work and the v. important meeting he had to get back for... AND he still blames me for not packing it?? Eh.... Apparently as the 'mum' of the household I am responsible for packing even when not flying?? All in all the whole trip was very expensive... next year he say's this year we're off to the Caribbean in February.. cheaper and warmer! Nice stopping by... I look forward to your posts! Lx

  8. Melissa, I have the funniest story to tell you some time....about the time I went to France.
I may have to write a post about it! Kind of a culture shock...and I was very young...and alone...sent by my employer to do some consulting for Haagan Dazs Ice cream. Oh...another time!

I have almost missed a flight several times...running throught the airport etc...but I am never early anywhere so it is amazing that I have not missed a flight!

Have a wonderful trip...and when you get back...lets talk about running. My email is on my sidebar...just let me know when you're home!

You inspire me too, friend! In so many ways!

  10. I drove to Marysville and back yesterday and held my breath as I drove over the Black Spur but I didn't actually go into another country! It did take me over an hour to get there though. Stopped in Healesville on the way back and grabbed some brilliant op shop buys. Off to a Vintage fair in Ashburton this afternoon (I hope) after my Big Boy gets his Auskick trophy this morning. Not quite France but it will have to do :)
Thanks for the lovely comments re my cushion! I was so exited as you can guess!
Have a lovely lovely time away :)

  16. Well I'm sure by now the treasures are piling up in the back of the car, and hopefully you have room for them all. I'm so envious! I've missed one or two flights in my day, never my fault of course, but the funniest was once upon a time in Greece, when my friend and I were desperately trying to get the cab driver to speed up because we were running so late, and he just smiled a lot, and then stopped in a screeching halt to let a tortoise cross the road - slowly! Can't wait to hear about your trip. Drive carefully. xx

  17. Paris...ah, the city of light! I've been there twice and I'd still love to go again! On my second visit, I opted to visit alone with no companions. I don't know, maybe I was soul-searching, trying to find something outside of myself that, unbeknownst to me, I already possessed. But that's another story. Anyway, I arrived from London by Eurostar and stopped at the ATM just before making a bee line for the Metro ticket counter. I purchased my ticket and went straight to the platform so I could travel to my hotel. Anyone who had traveled the Paris Metro knows how quickly the trains run and often how close the trains are to the turnstiles. Within the 20 yards that I walked from the ticket counter, through the turnstile and onto the train, my wallet was stolen from my backpack! Needless to say, I spent the better part of the next two days visiting the American Embassy, phoning my parents in the US, and locating the nearest Western Union to retrieve money my dad had wired. I still had a wonderful time in spite of losing the $150 in my wallet (thank goodness it wasn't more!) and the added expense of replacing my passport. Two weeks after I returned home, the Paris police wrote to inform me that my wallet had been found in FRENCH. I know some French from high school but I had to break out the French-to-English dictionary to decipher the unfamiliar terms! I decided to let bygones be bygones!

  18. Are you sure we're not related? I leave packing until the last minute all the time - hubby has all of his stuff organised ages before! I very nearly missed a plane once, but it was actually dad's fault. The result was my parents, sister and I running through the airport, we were paged at least five times, and when we finally made it onto the plane (that they held for us) we were very unpopular! Not something I'd like to repeat. Have a great holiday, and enjoy yourself, you big jet-setter! K xx

  20. How exciting! An aussie gal just driving to Paris. I remember when the children were young driving down the coast from Sydney toward Victoria and the children wanting to just go across the border so they could say they had been to Victoria during the holidays, but we simply didn't have time... so close and yet so far and I was so glad we didn't as the car broke down, on the outskirts of Sydney, on the way back.

  21. Thank you so much for stopping by to see me and leaving a comment and for following. I don't know how I had missed you, but I am so glad we have met at last. Going to France has always been my dream. How lovely to be close enough to drive there. I can't imagine forgetting the departure date, but I can imagine getting confused (yeah, it happens). Have a wonderful trip!! In return, I am following you now. Too bad I can't follow you all the way to France!

Have never missed a flight before, but I actually had a dream the other night that my husband and the boys and I were moving country and kept missing our plane flight as we all kept falling asleep!!! 24. Hi arrrghhh I missed you! I just popped by to say hello I am back and then find you are gone! Oh well - it can wait! Delighted you are having a little trip and yes I agree - driving on holiday is rather novel. It makes packing a much lesser issue as frankly you can shove stuff in the car last minute with much less consequence. Have a wonderful time - catch up soon... Lou xx
