vintage metal box love & a virtual coffee...

i'm a little late {as usual}...
but i'm here....!
*a virtual coffee*...with some vintage metal box finds...
love it...
yours is the pink chair {as usual}...
in front of the fire...

today i'm sitting on the window seat...
with my vintage metal box stash...
we drove an hour to search for these...
the b.b {british bestie} & i...
a vintage second hand market up through the countryside...
well we weren't searching for these specifically...
we were searching for a few things from our *eternal list*...
anything with typeset just happens to be pretty near the top on both!

they aren't pretty like my teacups...
they aren't girly...
or lovely...
they are perfectly industrial...
& sturdy...
& strong...
with a history....
someone's history...

for a fiver i got two big tins...
& all that was in them...
the man who sold them to us was delightful...
rugged up in the cold...
woollen cream jumper...
big lovely scarf wrapped round his neck...
smile from ear to ear...
b.b & i liked him...
so much so that we went back for a second lookie at his stall
& she bought another gorgeous old china plate from him...
he was a perfect antidote to the bloody freezing winds & our very early morning...

what a fix he was...
& then b.b found me a proper old fashioned english jumble sale...
in a village hall no less...
for an aussie gal in ol'blighty- nothing short of heaven...
50p a ticket to get in...
& a stall like no others...
a wonderful little old lady with treasures galore...
& each & every item had been explained on a ticket...
hand-written & stuck with a date & price to the wares...
these wonderful old books were 40p a pop from her...
& b.b started another collection of blue & white china plates...
nothing like buying old china that has been researched for you...
& that comes with it's own little hand-written bit of history...
the best of england is usually found at a jumble sale...

oops...
hope you brought your own coffee...
i haven't offered you a thing...
it seems i'm so infatuated with my metal stash
i haven't even asked how you are!!!

anyhoo....
selfishly i was wondering....
"any suggestions for my metal boxes?"

you see...
i think i may just do nothing but sit & stare lovingly at them
if we were really having coffee together this morning
i think i would have been miles away....ahhhh

  1. Oh, you lucky duck, Miss Melissa! Seriously, where are you finding all the space to store these treasures? Are you bursting at the seams yet? They make me melt. Delicious. J x

  2. I have brought my own cup of tea, so don't worry about not offering me anything!
Oh my, you've been to a jumble sale...and in a village hall...I'm envious. I can only imagine the treasures.
I don't have any clever suggestions for those boxes I'm afraid, you'll just have to display them somewhere where you can sit and stare.

  3. HI Melissa,
I'm perched on your pink chair eyeing up your metal boxes wondering if you would miss them if I did a quick grab and dash.
I miss jumble sales. Honestly, the op shops here forget they are selling 2nd hand goods - I swear, it's getting worse.
I'm also envious of your half term break, we are onto week 5 here and I feel myself fading. Only another 6 to go before the next hols.
On a less green eyed monster note - have a super dooper weekend.

  4. Hi you... my brother used to have a box, just like the small black one... he's 12 years older than me, so was a teenager at the time... the mind boggles as to what he kept in there... it was all top secret. What I do know, was that he kept a toy hedgehog in there (from his childhood), it was called Gilbert and was made of leather and fur... sounds yucky but he was cute... he rattled because he had been shot with a pellet gun up the bottom (by my brother)... he was his prized possession... when I got older he gave him to me... he moved from flat to house with me, but some how got lost in my transition to Australia... I've not told him... Hopefully he's still milling around somewhere... you never know he might end up at a jumble sale... keep an eye out for Gilbert! Lx

  5. Don't worry, I always carry a cup of tea. Lady Gaga got the idea from me.

The marvellous metal boxes are saying "tools" to me...

  6. I love a good antique/rummage sale. In fact, I'm going with a friend to one in a couple days.

I also like to find things that have the names of the original owner on them. I like to hear the story behind things. It's one of my favorite parts of antique-ing. :)

Thanks for the coffee and the pink chair. I smiled when I saw the pink chair picture.

  7. You are too cute! I was wondering when you were going to offer me a drink. Don't worry though, I brought along my Big Gulp. Never leave home without it.

Your metal tin is very spiffy! I know you'll do something fab with it. Maybe something w/your sewing supplies?

  8. I think staring lovingly at your treasures is just fine for now Melissa. What a fantastic day you must have had. Any room on the back seat for an interloper? I could hold everything, and I promise I wouldn't be any trouble...xx

  14. Shopping for old treasures is SO satisfying - in a way that no other shopping is. And as for uses for your indeed, perfectly industrial boxes, you can't go wrong with storage items. Hmm, I'd be stashing art supplies, haby, photos, letters...

Have a fab weekend Melissa xx

  17. Hi Melissa,
You're so lucky! It's almost impossible to find industrial things so cheaply over here.

  19. Hi, just came over form a Beach Cottage blog, I love the boxes, what a find. Also I notice your clock says Lytham, I have to ask is that Lytham, Lancs? If so I'm just round the corner, which is very suprising as I seem to be drawn to blogs written by people on the other side of the world!
