a virtual coffee with a pot of tea & a chippy stool...

morning....virtual coffee morning...a day late...!
anyhow...we're here together & that's what i like...
a weekly *catchup*...a chat...a natter...a little tete a tete...
what a week...
let me pour you a tea...
hot & strong from my very new...very beloved white chippy-looking teapot...

i have just blown up to school...
through the village on my bike...
kiddos in tow...
what a sight...kids whooping...wind howling...
what is it with the wind that has the kiddos going happily mad?!
anyway we got there by the skin of our teeth...rosy-cheeked & bloody cold fresh...
& our day started yet again with a flurry!

if we were really meeting this morning for a little tea slurping...
i would tell you that i am on a mission to finish all my little paint jobs...
yep...i bought the lovely big industrial sized pot-o-white-paint...
& i am pretending it's almost spring here in ol'blighty...
& freshening this big ol' house up...
out with the old & in with the old-now-up-cycled & freshly-painted-new-&-chippy...
the first being all the gorgeous vintage stools for little A to stand on whilst brushing her pearlies...
i love a wooden stool & a beautiful old bathroom sink...don't you...

& if we were really having a tea at mine...
i'd even let you drag that lovely stool around with you to put our *mugs* on if you wanted...
it really is lovely...& Audrey wouldn't mind...
well...i wouldn't even bother to tell her...
kids can be funny about their old-vintage-up-cycled-teeth-brushing-stools can't they...
so our secret...

anyhow...how are you?
i'd ask you that with a grin if you were popping in from the maldives or some such gorgeous spot...
but if you were popping in from australia ...i'd ask it with {again}...worry & concern...
as a cyclone is now heading towards the very north eastern coast of oz...{go here for news}
35 kms/22 miles wide at the eye...300 km/190 mile an hour winds...
the worst our country has yet experienced...
people have been evacuated to safety & they are expecting to be hit by midnight australian time...
that's lunch time for me here...
needless to say i am on radio 4 & on the web checking the progress...
what is going on with the world's weather...???
again...it's just an awful feeling to be so far away at times like this...
floods & now cyclones....

if we were really meeting for a tea today...
i'd be having sugar in mine...it's that kinda day...
& i'd tell you that i actually saw a non-kiddo movie last night...
with two girlfriends no less...
we did a quick little Q & A around the car...
"last movie seen?"...
Shrek 3...
Toy Story 3...
&
Gulliver's Travels...
in 3D...thanks very much
yep you can understand the need for a REAL movie...
so *The Kings Speech* was, needless to say, brilliant...
the music was beautiful...
the photography heavenly...
the settings, particularly in the speech therapist's office, were to die for...
old wall paper...beautiful windows...large sit-in-me sofa's...
& the acting...well sorry Gulliver...but the acting was incredible...
long live Colin Firth & Geoffrey Rush...

so after a night out...wine & dinner pre-movie...
today i am all happy & busy & ignoring of the cold & grey skies...
it's amazing how you can talk yourself into anything really...
heating cranked up...
huge wolly cardi & uggs on...
it almost does feel like spring is upon us...

& if you were really here having another little pot with me...
on that mention of spring...
i would show you the gorgeously-perfect-spring-purse my british bestie gave me yesterday...
isn't she a lovely bestie to have found over here...
isn't the purse a lovely thing to throw in my bag...
*Kath Kidson* really does sum up spring over here in ol'blighty for an aussie girl...
if you were really having tea at mine...
you'd probably want to meet my *BB* wouldn't you...
she's a good tea drinker...
doesn't say no to a large little glass of something with me...
& she's often here for a catch-up...
so maybe one day you shall be blessed too...
& have a little chat with her whilst i'm brewing tea in the kitchen!

if we were really meeting today for a mug or two of tea...
i would probably lend you an extra scarf...& a wooly hat...& a spare pair of uggies...
to get you out the front door & down my front path...
those of you from the southern hemisphere particularly, may not feel like coming back without them...
keep them for as long as you need to...
just as long as you keep visiting...
i love our *virtual catch-ups*...

have a wonderful day...
keep warm...
or
keep safe...
or
have an extra ocean dip for us...
depending on where in the world you are...
&
pop over to thank our host Amy from Lucky number 13 for this gorgeous gas-bag session...
she is a wonderful talker...
with photos to tug at your heart strings...
i promise you!

xxx

p.s

a huge thanks for all your wonderful
thoughtful
comments on my new header yesterday...
it's now a stayer

  2. Nice to share that cuppa with you. Love your Kath Kiddson purse -so pretty.
I went to see The Kings Speech too, and I didn't want it to end, I loved it so much.
I'm in need of another mug of tea tonight as some distraction from the cyclone coverage (horrible thing) so I'm off the Lucky number 13.
    Have a good Wednesday,

  3. Aww Melissa... how I wish I could sit around your kitchen table with you, but I suppose this virtual catch up will have to make do! I love catching glimpses of you big old place... It really looks a treat. I too have an old stool like yours... ours came from the hubby's Bubby (grandma)... it could do with a little sand as it has paint drips down it, but I fear lead paint in it! The weather sure is crazy in the world at the moment. We have a ice storm at the moment... crazy... Hoping everyone stays safe in Australia! Lx
P.s you inspired me to go and see the Kings Speech this Friday.

  4. That post made me warm and cozy.

Hot tea and coffee is top on my list today. It's our second snow day, but not because of snow. It's been -10 to -15 degrees F for the last 2 days. Wind chills in the -20s. Brr. I can not get warm.

  6. I keep hearing about the King's Speech. I'm going to have to go see that one. I recently saw Black Swan and I think I may have to have the ballerinas quit now. Wayyyyy too scary!

  7. Another lovely virtual cuppa, thank you. I must admit though the thought of a nice hot cup of tea does make me feel slightly nauseous today, we're on our 3rd day of temps being in the high 30s, and it was 43 on Monday, the idea of a nice crisp English winter is very very appealing right now hehe. 8. Ah, just lovely, that warmth I feel when reading this weekly post of yours, Miss Melissa. Thanks for the recommendation for 'The King's Speech' - I think Mr PB and I might just have to see it this weekend (our first time seeing a film in about a year). J x

  10. The King's Speech is next on my list Melissa, I can't wait to see it as I have heard nothing but good things about it. I love your little note on the chalkboard, too cute! Sounds like all the mamas needed a night out to see an adult movie, huh? Such a cute little purse, what a sweet friend you have there. We are covered in ice and snow and freezing rain...school is now cancelled for the third day in a row and the power has been flickering non-stop but we have not lost it completely. My best girlfriend did make it here, she only had 5-hour drive but was driving with all the kids, including her new baby Finn by herself and got here just before all the terrible weather hit. I am hoping we are not stuck all weke and we are able to get out one of these evenings, I am so needing an adult only night out myself! Love the sneak peek of your home and all your lovely things as always. hugs to you and thanks for coffee-or tea!

  11. I adore your teapot! Spring doesn't feel too far away here in Italy, just a few more weeks hopefully.
Thanks for the virtual cuppa x x

  12. Love the teapot! I've just developed a yearning for a crocheted tea cosy with big fat crochet flowers....weird as it's 40 degrees C here in Sydney:) Love this weekly catch-up with your divine photos. Hope you're having a great week. Meredy xo

I can't exactly remember why--maybe it was peer pressure from our health-driven community, who knows. For several weeks I had been seeing this commercial on television telling about a new pizza and since I love pizza I decided to purchase one on my next shopping trip.
