a friday flower on vintage china...friday pretties...

i know...i couldn't help it...
she was just too gorgeous to leave in the shop...
look at her all snuggled under her tissue paper...
she really did call out to me...
i heard it...& i fell in love...
the best £2.50 i have spent all week...

yes...she's a little grubby...a little marked in places...
but i love her for all those markings...
how many tables has she graced in her lifetime?
how many conversations has she been *passed around* to...
i think she is lovely beyond compare...

another moment of english country life...
one i can clock up & recall when i eventually go home to oz...
she'll hold meals she's never heard of i'm sure...
mango salads...lamingtons...
{yes jane i'm still thinking of lamingtons- curse you lovely!!!}
but for now she's holding my *friday flowers*...

a friday flower...if you are new to my friday bloggy sharing...
is a series of photos & thoughts focusing on a bunch bought for no particular reason...
other than to enjoy the happiness that fresh flowers in the house brings...
to be honest...
it justify's spoiling oneself a little at the end of each week...
sometimes the flowers are passed onto someone special...like a virtual gift...
sometimes they are just because...
today they are for my witty wise & kindred american friend amy from *lucky number 13*...
because i think her, & i, need all the help we can get to reach spring!!

amy sweetie...
these are yellow...one of your fave colours...
{pssst...yep like the sun we both see- no warmth but bright...!}
&
they are thrown onto an old vintage platter as i look for a vase...
{you can relate to that as you build a fort...read a book for the kiddos...search the kitchen cupboards....!}
&
they make me smile...
{you get it...don't you....!}

so as i think about the weekend ahead...
& look at my roses...& giggle at amy's brilliantly funny whinging about the weather & life in general....
{yep you'll love her!}...
&
quietly cheer to myself about that gorgeous platter seeing me outa the corner of her eye...
& calling me over across the crowded oxfam village shop...
& popping herself into my basket...
i just want to say thanks for continuing to come past...
thanks for leaving comments...or not...
thanks for just taking a moment to catch up...

if you want to see some other *friday flowers*...
my gorgeous friend laura will share some with you over a good strong pot of tea...
&
i have also linked up today with joyce on her wonderfully inspirational blog
*i love pretty little things*
 grab a pot of tea & ooh & aahh over her
*sweet friday pretties*

have a wonderful weekend
see you monday for some craftiness

  1. I always think the same when I get old china... I wonder who lovingly took care of these... packing them away after meals gently so they didn't get broken... wondering who they were treasured by? As always your pictures are beautiful! When do you return back to Oz? Do you have much time left in Blighty? I love that you fell in love with my beautiful home... as you know, I share the same appreciation for yours! Perhaps you'll pop over to the States on day? Anyhoo, have a great weekend! Here's hoping for sun! Lx

  2. Ok, just this very instant, the sun is peeking through the clouds, hiep hiep hoera! (that's dutch). Spring with some warmth is what we need indeed. Old china, love love love it! Can tell you a story about a lot of platters, a combined loot of me and my friend, sick lungs and being 8 months pregnant walking up a hill....
    And the way you talk about the dinners that once where served, never tought about that, good one!
    Hope the weekend will bring out the sun!
    Maureen xx

    (btw, was i correct to think that you send something my way with snailmail? if so, it never made it to switzerland, if not, just roll your eyes at me... hugs for you sweetie!)

  9. You never fail to make me smile with your thrift finds, Miss Melissa. You have such a knack for finding loveliness. So I guess no bartering was involved this time, given the price ☺. Oh, and why don't you introduce this little lady to lamingtons this weekend - just stock up on your coconut and you're good to go.

    Oh, and like Laura, I wondered about the comment about returning home. Is that imminent or something a few years down the track? I'm intrigued now. J x

  13. Beautiful photo Melissa...and the plate is gorgeous...just love finding bargains in England...so much great old stuff to be had! Hubby's worried we'll be eventually going home with two containers instead of one! Loved Amy's blog cause I feel the same way this week having just left sunny, warm Australia. Nothing like a sappy looking 'Big Bird' to cheer me up though! Robx

  14. Ooooh, I LOVE vintage china. Doesn't vintage sound so much better than second-hand?!!! Your find is gorgeous - and those flowers too!

  15. What a gorgeous plate mel, no wonder you had to take her home!! Pretty pretty roses too. When i was back in the uk , i just was blown over by how less expensive it is to buy flowers than in Australia. Its perfectly understandable though; its so much harder to grow things over here i suppose...
    How lucky you are to be coming into spring!! autumn is on the way here :( Winter is not good for my mental health!
    Enjoy your weekend whatever you get up to!!
    Hugs from afar, laura xxx

  16. I don't have a pound sign on my keyboard - but 2.50! I'm sure she will enjoy her new home.
    We are slowly moving into autumn here, after a month of very sticky heat. I must say I am rather enjoying the cooler days.
    Have a super week Melissa.
