a day of all weathers...
will i ever get used to the british weather...?
here is my ruffly lovely bag in autumn mode...
inspiration to spend a snuggly day inside, making a matching one for *sarah*, after coffee with the B.B {british bestie}...
sarah won my ruffly-giveaway...she is a doll & inspires me constantly on her gorgeous blog *Modern Country Style*...oh the houses she takes us through...-get over there!
ballet shoes...mac coat & ruffles...autumn...
i'm gonna show you when i get in my winter boots...i'm still holding out...just...!
so...with a coffee under my mac & a morning waiting for rain...i started ruffling...big time...
see my little *i love mum* note up there on my machine...?
that's been there for longer than i can remember...love those moments...it not ever coming off...
so...ruffles by the yard...french ribbon by the roll...rain trying to fall...pots of tea...sarah's bag...
i love sewing with plain fabrics where the texture really shines through...
it's not about the colours...but the design...the shape...the ruffles...
lined in blue french stripe...simple...timeless...
as i finished...the rain bucketed down...pounding against the windows...
B.U.C.K.E.T.E.D...!
*murphy's law*- lunchtime- chance of rain...school pickup- lashing down...!
so i left my cosy little corner...slurped the last of my tea & dashed past my wellies {!!} into the rain...
leaving a pile of ruffles, cotton, fabric & creative chaos for another day...
i so love sewing in cold rainy weather...listening to BBC radio on my laptop...
i've made lotsa extra ruffles today...ready for some cushion creating...for the change of seasons...
& i've been thinking of ruffly wreathes...& other autumn crafting...
there's some little projects i'm wanting to share..so ladies, get your glue guns loaded...!
this cushion is for my sitting chair...
french typeset...old vintage sacks bought in the french countryside whilst brocante loving with my mama...
we had a couple of weeks together, the summer after we first arrived from the sandy beaches of sydney...
i've been saving these for a rainy day...& here's the start of something lovely...
but...i'll keep this to show you for another day...
another rainy autumn day...

ReplyDeleteIt's the kind of wow-statement that I shall have hours of fun planning whole outfits around!!
THANK YOU!!
Sarahxx
Oooh she's a lucky lady! The linen fabric you use is just divine. I can't wait to see how you make your ruffly wreath, I would very much like to make one of those for Christmas. I do love me a pretty new wreath.
ReplyDeleteHope the rain has stopped now. We have had it all jolly week and now the sun is trying to shine. Might just be a nice weekend, hope yours is too.
Such a cute bag...and I love all the fabric! Lovely pictures of course. Glad you enjoy sewing in the rain!
ReplyDeleteOooh, love the ruffles, and your cushion!
ReplyDeleteAs much as it is getting cooler there, it is warming up so fast!Today it will be 30deg cel here in the blue mountains!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Melissa, the ruffles! the cushion! the rain outside while you're happily sewing your heart out! I just love it at your place:) Happy weekend. Meredy xo

so beautiful!!! i love the whole scene you painted in this post. sounds so inspiring. i see those kinds of vintage grain or coffee sacks now and then and they are always sooooo expensive in SoCal. your pillow turned out so lovely.
ReplyDeleteHow lovely is that! Lucky Sarah :) and that cushion.. you really should start your own little shop x
ReplyDeleteI love it. I love the bag of course but the little, "I love mum" is delightful. I wonder about the cheeky little soul who dared to pen that! I am sure they will go far in this world. Lucky Sarah. I hope you will list these in your shop as they would sell like hotcakes.
ReplyDeletePS hold out on those boots. Today I ventured to ballet flats from boots.Almost the exact opposite.
Oh my! Sarah is the luckiest girl alive to receive that divine ruffliness. Hands down. The French blue stripe lining - swooning in Hobart ☺. J x
ReplyDeleteSarah is so lucky!! If you ever decide to sell these I request to be first on the list please!!! :) Love those linen ruffles and that striped ribbon.
ReplyDeleteThe husband has been asking me what I want for my birthday. I just turned the laptop toward him and said "this - do you think you can make one?" :)
Sarah is a lucky duck and these bags are just divine, Miss Melissa. Sorry to hear that the great hot weather streak continues to elude you but there is plenty of warmth in your blog xx
ReplyDeletePS About halfway through Dirt Music (thanks again for your recommendation).. read Cloud Street & The Riders years ago ..scratching my head as to why it's taken so long to read this. Really enjoying it so far and the essence of WA.. Winton writes amazing well from the female perspective too.
I love you gorgeous ruffly bag - lucky Sarah! - Melissa x
ReplyDeleteOh, I love the ruffly bag!!! You're right. The texture and the ruffles really shine against the muted backdrop. You are so talented.
ReplyDeleteAnd the "I love Mum" note? Priceless. Noticed that right off the bat. :)
I think to have the time and space to sew and create like this is just the ticket - especially when it is raining, and you don't have to feel guilty about neglecting any so-called chores! I'd probably forget the school pick up! Mind you, right now, I'm just longing for the day when we'll have our house to ourselves again, without a tradesman or builder in sight.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see what other rainy-day ruffly inspirations you will come up with! Sarah's bag looks just great. She'll be so thrilled with it.

Today, I went to the beachfront with my children.
ReplyDeleteI found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed.
There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear.
She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally
off topic but I had to tell someone!

ReplyDeleteIts very well written; I love what youve got to say.
