australian ocean colours...& a squirrel under the roses...

sometimes i surprise myself...

we saw our first squirrel of autumn today...& it made me smile...
a big-ol'-aussie-gal-living-in-the-english-countryside-who-still-gets-surprised-kinda smile...

when you've lived in a place for a few years- you think you know the *rhythms* of the day...
you think even though you grew up on a surfboard with sandy feet & salty hair...you can just *disappear* into life in a country whose *rhythms* couldn't be more different from your own....

well this was a classic moment of australian enthusiasm & an english garden...
we stared & loved...
smiled & named...
& then we decided not to tell any of our real english friends about our encounter lest they giggle at us...
& remind us that britian has approximately ten squillion squirrels- none of which are really worth naming...

anyhoo...
we like smiling & cooing over our special squirrel....

of course there are no cute & lovely photos to show as we were busy doing all of the errr...above...
you know the crazed enthusiasm & stuff....

so what i will show you is
my kitchen window's last *yehar* to my hometown sydney's dose of spring weather
before i go all autumnal with the house....
the days are getting darker & i'm trying my hardest not to put the heating on *all the time*...

i have had a lovely time *trawling* through all the gorgeous blogs that are creating autumn *moments* on their mantles...in their dinning rooms...their playrooms...in their halls....

but i have decided to have a little moment of australian-ocean-colours to see out this week until i embrace all things warm...& brown & autumny....

...a little moment of sydney & sandy floors...

...so if you are a british gal in sydney naming a kookaburra or a possum in your *backyard*...
or
...an aussie gal like me naming a squirrel amongst your roses in the english countryside...
...enjoy the change of seasons...

  1. Aww... I used to feel the same about squirrels until I moved to the US... then we had them living our loft... we borrowed a cage/ trap & I set about capturing the little blighters (humanely)... I caught around 15... the hubby would leave for work, with his thermos, work bag and his squirrel in cage... Very funny... then he'd pop to the local park on the way and free them... He actually had to factor in 'squirrel releasing' into his daily commute! More immportantly, I could add 'squirrel catcher' to my CV... to say my life has changed would be an under exaggeration... Oh, and I thought possums were cute in Oz and then I caught one of them and realised they look like giant rats! Happy Humpday! Lx

  2. How sweet to think of squirrels with enthusiasm. Not quite the reaction they provoke in me. ;) We have a bit of a squirrel issue - they really like my roof.

  3. We have a couple of resident cockatoos that I might just have named, and I do believe there might be more of their kind here, than squirrels there? So, I'm sillier than you! x

  5. I really love the beautiful colours on your window sill. It's funny, only yesterday I was thinking about the very first time I saw a squirrel, walking down a street in Cambridge. In the days before it was feasible to own a good camera with a zoom. Still have the photos 20 years on...just a little dot in the corner of someone's garden. I'm sure they thought we were mad!

  8. I so prefer the Australian colours. I'm not really into oranges and reds but I was thinking about how I'm going to do it without too much orange!!! What a pity turqouise doesn't really feel very autumnish. Loved your photos.

  10. Just a load of tourists after all aren't you!
(I was the same when I was there, and how crazy I went over snowflakes - the big soft floaty kind, the first time I saw them.)

  11. Beautiful photos! :D I've never seen a squirrel! So I'd be just the same! I for one say all those squillions of squirrelies matter!

Btw... being in the Australian Spring... I'm still struggling not to have the heater on every second at the moment too!

  12. I laughed at Kerry's comment - I was exactly the same when I first saw a squirrel. Only I think in my photos I couldn't even see where the squirrel was meant to be! I think they're so cute, so totally understand your squirrel moment. xx

  13. Oh how cute! What did you name him or her? I'd be excited too being an aussie who's never seen one in the wild before :) Love the Sydney beach colors, they're the colors I have in my home... Have a great week! Nel
